Lazy Prayer

again flat on
my back
typing words
in another hack

dreams of what
a contender I could have been
anger/pity/dismay at the dreams
that remain unseen

listening to music subsidizing
my laziness with more excuses
the brain proposes yet more
schemes but the heart refuses

pass more time
surf your life away
when all else fails
clasp hands and pray

pray away the worries that prey
sorrows dampen your heart today
lift your chin stretch that smile
linger on for a while

sunday afternoon goes quick
so does another thought you think
when all else fails to yourself you pray
your malaise to erode away
