a girl like me

if you want a girl like me
you need a car like that
an attitude to show off
money to buy me clothes

and I won’t mind
your mistress
and I don’t care
about the poor people

as long as my designer shoes
don’t get muddy while walking over the pavement
that serves as the bed for my fellow Indians
for compassion has limits

and it is only wise to be practical
said my yoga master and my Buddhism class
and it is only folly to be courageous
said my mother
